On the holiday of Sukkot we dwell in huts with a roof of palm fronds, branches, reeds or bamboo, in which we eat all our meals and even some have the custom to sleep in it.
When we sit in the Sukkah we feel the vulnerability of our lives. We are completely exposed to external elements like wind, rain, heat, mosquitoes, etc… And nevertheless we are commanded to be joyful and enjoy. What does all this mean? What H”S is telling us and our sages teach us is that our happiness is not dependent on our comfort, money, homes, cars, etc… Our happiness comes from above, it comes from knowing that our protection in life comes none other than H”S.
The Jewish people dwelled for forty years in these huts in the dessert. They where protected by the clouds of glory, Miriam’s well and where nourished by the mana that fell every day from heaven.
Our true security comes from this knowledge, knowing that H”S takes care of us since the day we are born and when we are able to tap into this emunah( faith) and we know that everything is from Him then we can tap into Bitachon which is to trust Him.
