Moed Tov! Today is a quasi holiday known as Chol HaMoed. Work is allowed, yet it is still part of the Holiday-we continue to eat in the Sukkah, bless and wave the “four kinds” and we insert special prayers. Some men don’t put on Tefillim.
Sukkot is the symbol of G-d’s protection over Israel and one day it will be especially recognized by the other Nations of the world, and they will be rewarded for it. As Rabbi Yehoshua Ben Levi said ” If the Nations of the world had known the value of The Temple for them (the seventy Temple offerings on Sukkot protected the seventy Nations of the world), they would have surrounded it with fortresses in order to protect it from being destroyed. For it was of greater value for them than for Israel…”
Today the offerings are recreated through our prayers. Our Joy and Service during Sukkot continue to have, as they did in ancient times, a cosmic impact on the destiny of the world.
So we see that the celebration of Sukkot is about transforming not just ourselves but the entire planet, B”H to finally achieve peace for all humankind.
