Listening to a talk giv …

Listening to a talk given by Rabbi Manis Friedman about the difference of the intention of fulfilling Mitzvahs (acts of love and kindness) in our days and how it is going to be in the world to come when Meshiach comes, he explains it like this; in the times of Galus (exile) the reason we do Mitzvahs is to gain points for the world to come and also to rectify the world (Tikun Olam). When the exile is finished and we enter the time of redemption there will be nothing else to fix. There will be no more hunger, wars, disease and suffering. We won’t need to perfect the world anymore for it will have reached its perfect state. So why is it that we will still perform Mitzvahs? This will be but with a different intention, we will still perform Mitzvahs for the sole purpose of bringing joy to G-d.
Rabbi Friedman makes an analogy to marriage; the first years of marriage we do things for the other so we will gain points with them and we rectify our life together. After some years into the marriage we don’t need to gain points we continue doing things for the other just to bring them joy.
There will be no EGO in the World to come just the desire to please another.
