Last Shabbat I had the great fortune to listen to Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau former Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel and chairman of Yaad Vashem amongst others.
He was the youngest child to be liberated from Buchenwald an orphan at eight years old and against all odds he was able to continue his father’s’ Rabbinical lineage.
He asked us : “what is there not to like about Shabbat?
It’s a day of much needed rest, we go to pray, we eat delicious food, we get to spend quality time with family and friends, we get to take a nap and we have time to read and learn Torah.”
Shabbat is an oasis in time in which we get to feel a glimpse of the world to come. It’s a day in which we get off the treadmill of the week and we are able to look at our week and life with a different lens, our spiritual lens.
If you already keep Shabbat try to put more intention into it. If you don’t, try to do something more for Shabbat.
In a way Shabbat is our way of thanking G-d and acknowledging all His kindness towards us, so I ask: what is wrong with that?
