In this week’s Parashah “Yitro”, G-d gave the Jews the Torah at MT.Sinai more than 3500 years ago. The Midrash says that the angels were crying to G-d not to give such a treasure to humanity, their reason was that we humans would never come to appreciate the value of H”S Wisdom and we would not take good care of it. Moses said to them:” do you have doubts about G-d? Do you believe in other deities? Do you have parents to honor? Do you have an evil inclination?” The Angels said “no”. So Moses answered “for you it is useless, but for us common people we need it to be able to live up in a higher way, without its guide we wouldn’t be able to survive.”
So the Angels allowed Moses to bring it down to our earthly realm and benefit from it.
Without the Torah the world wouldn’t be able to sustain itself. We should keep it and guard it, not because it makes sense or it makes us feel good. We should keep it because this is what G-d wants from us and the way He intended us to live.
