In this week’s Parasha “Vayak’hel” (you will assemble), Moses first instruction to the people is not to desecrate the Shabbat in their enthusiasm to build the Tabernacle. He then tells them what materials will be needed, so whoever possesses those materials can donate them, then He proceeds to tell them what components of the Tabernacle are, so whoever is skilled can volunteer.
This teaches us that each of us and all of our efforts are required to fulfill the purpose of this world. We are all part of this whole;none of us is too high or low on the ladder of spiritual status to work together with any of our fellow; and although we all have our unique talents and individual worth, this uniqueness cannot fully assert itself until we identify with our people as a whole.
