In this week’s Parasha three angels come to visit Abraham :Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. Each one of them was assigned a special mission. Michael came to give good news announcing that Abraham and Sarah would have a baby boy, Gabriel came to give bad news, that the cities of Sodom and Gemorrah would be destroyed and Raphael came to bring healing to Abraham after his circumcision.
As Holy and elevated angels are, they only can do what they were created for, they have no free will as we do.
When the Torah was given to Moshe Rabeinu @ Mount Sinai, the angels complained to G-d. They didn’t want the Torah to come down to earth, their quarrel was that humans would never appreciate such a treasure, therefore it should stay in the spiritual realms.Moses asked them:” do you believe in other gods? Do you have parents you have to honor? Do you deal in business? Do you suffer from jealousy? The Angels answered no to all these questions. So Moses said we humans have bad tendencies and we need the Torah to give us a guide. So it’s up to us with our free will to WANT to improve our ways. The path is built for us to follow.
