In this weeks Parasha “Beshalach” The Jews begin their 40 year journey through the Sinai dessert. Although they encountered many stumbling blocks that made them doubt if they should continue they always found a away to keep going. One of the themes we find in this portion is the Jews encounter with Amalek and it says “Amalek then came and fought against Israel”(17:8).
Although Amalek was a physical nation that tried to destroy the Jewish people through wars, there is a spiritual Amalek that we still fight till today and that is “Doubt”. Doubt is the number one spiritual killer. When we are not sure of who we are, what we want and what we are capable of then we are thrown into a sea of confusion that doesn’t let us see straight. To be successful in life you need to have a goal, then you need to devise a plan and then you need to go and do it!
Many times The Israelis were ready to throw the towel and say “I can’t do this any more” but they had the best leader “Moses” who never stopped believing in them, defending them and pushing them to achieve and fulfill G-d’s plan.
To be successful you also need a mentor or big buddy who will help you in your hard times. Someone who has your best interest at heart and who will always encourage and show you that you can. This is not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength and humility.
