In this week’s Parasha Beha’alothecha (“when you raise up”), the Jewish people begin complaining and crying to Moses that they are craving meat and all the delicacies they used to have in Egypt. G-d gets upset and makes them eat only meat for a month until it came out of their nose.
Throughout the 40 years in the desert G-d sent the Manna ( a superfood that came down every day from heaven).
According to the Talmud, manna was found at the doorstep of those with great faith in G-d and far from those who had doubts. The other miracle of the manna was that G-d sent the exact quantity that was needed for the Day (an Omer)and if someone would keep for the next day it would rot and worms would come out of it. On Erev Shabbat G-d would send a double portion because on Shabbat G-d rested and no Manna would fall. This is the reason we put two Challahs on our Shabbat table and we sprinkle them with sesame seeds so we can remember the dew that kept the Manna fresh for the next day.
This is why the Jews complaining about the lack of meat was sinful and made G-d angry. It showed lack of gratitude for their miraculous nourishment.
The lesson of the Manna is that G-d is our soul provider. We think we are the ones that make the money, but the truth is that Parnasah (material sustenance) is a blessing from G-d. The more you trust that He is the one who feeds you the less your going to suffer about it. The less trust , more suffering. If you are grateful for your blessings you will never feel you lack anything and you will be able to enjoy what you have.
Shabbat Shalom
