In the Pirket Avot ( Ethics Of The Fathers), our Sages teach us to acquire ourselves a friend. What does this mean? Buy yourself a friend? It’s not like you go to Bloomingdales and there are friends to buy! What our Sages mean is that a true friend is Sooo precious that it doesn’t come for free. We have to always see their value and when they say something to us about ourselves that we don’t like, not to take it lightly, because a TRUE friend is there to help us be the best we can be. So if you have a TRUE friend cherish him/her and never forget that you also have to be a True friend in return, it is not free.
