In Parashah “Vayeira” H”S decides to destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham pleaded with Him that if there 50 righteous people not to destroy them, there were not 50 good people. Then he asked 40,30,20,10,1…. there was not even one good person. So H”S sent the Ángels to save Lot, Abraham’s nephew, because he had a merit of being from Abraham’s family and he kept the mitzvah of taking care of guests which could mean the death penalty. The problem with Sodom and Gomorrah was that goodness was punished and this was the law. If you gave tzedakah or did any kindness to anyone you would be punished by the law. This is why H”S decided to destroy these two cities, because a place where evilness is the letter of the law has no place in H”S world.
There will always be evil in the world, until Mashiach comes, we can’t get rid of the evil in the world this is what gives us the opportunity to choose to do right. But what we can do is hate the evil in the world and never accept it as if it were the right thing to do.
