In Parasha Masei G-d designates six cities of refuge to the Levites. These cities had the purpose to shelter someone who had committed an unintentional murder. The person who died had to die, but that it had to be through someone else, that is the question?
The Levites were the guardians of the Mishkan and their exemplary quality was their Ahava Yisrael (love for others), the job of the Levites was to connect the Jewish people with G-d through their service in the Tabernacle and through the teachings of the Torah and fulfillment of the Mitzvot.
So when a person committed an unintentional murder, he was sent to one of these cities of refuge to get away from their mundane life and be protected from anyone who wanted to avenge their loved death, so they were sent to learn Torah all day so they could do Teshuvah and return to G-d’s ways.
The roads that lead to these cities of refuge were wide and free of obstacles, so whoever needed to get there could do it easily and fast. In the same way H”S keeps His Torah accesible to us so we can find our way in life easily and at the same time He sends us people and ways that will help us connect to Him in an efficient way.
We all must consider ourselves like “traffic signs” which purpose is to show others the direction to life and kindness. But not only our job is to show the way but to also live ourselves trying to get closer to H”S every day.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe once said:”if your head hurts, learn Torah. If your heart hurts, learn Torah. If you have any pain, go and learn Torah!” Obviously he meant it in the spiritual sense.
Torah is an elixir of life, which when learned and applied well can cure even the most painful event in your life.
