“G-d blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, for on that day G-d rested.”(Bereshit 2:3)
So after H”S created all existence on the seventh day, he created rest.
Rest is also a creation and a very important one. Today studies have proven that many illnesses come from lack of rest.
We should not take rest for granted, we should appreciate the gift it is. But what is rest for us (playing golf, going to the beach, watching movies, shopping, etc…) is not the rest H”S created on the seventh day. The rest He created was that He stopped his creative process and He allowed everything to be.
The Creator declares: ”My children be happy, for I give you that which is very good.”
“Knowledge of what you possess is true wealth. If you are unaware of what you have, or are only faintly aware of its true nature, you actually do not possess it.” (Rabbi Zelig Pliskin “Growth Through Torah)
H”S gave us Shabbat as a gift and He informed us about it. He didn’t want us to take this gift for granted, but the only way to appreciate it and know the value of it is if we keep it.
