Every Friday night afte …

By June 7, 2019 No Comments

Every Friday night after we sing Shalom Aleichem it is customary for the husband to sing to his wife Eishet Chayil (Who can find a wife of excellence?) this song is found in Shira Shirim, some say it was written by Abraham to his wife Sarah as an eulogy when he buried her and others say it was written by King Salomon to his mother Batsheva. Either way in a more mystical sense it is also a song of the relationship between G-d and us.
Eishet Chayil talks about the many sacrifices a woman makes for her loved ones. It talks about a woman that is very complete. She uses alacrity in everything she does. She wakes up early to meet the needs of her household, she feeds them, she dresses them. She makes her husband important. She feeds the poor, she opens her mouth with wisdom and teaches kindness by her example, her family loves her. On top of it she buys a field and makes it profitable (an entrepreneur). She is a G-d fearing woman who runs away from fame, her deeds say it all. She is more precious than pearls.
Who is this Super Woman? We all are!!!!! H”S created all women with this potential, this is our make up. It is up to us to live up to it.
It is so befitting for the husband to acknowledge his wife’s endeavors in front of the children on Friday night and thank her for everything she does for them.
In our crazy fast forward lives, sometimes we tend to forget what really matters and open a space in our lives for those who make our lives so rich and beautiful.
To all the Eishet Chayil’s out there I want to wish you a Shabbat Shalom
