During the 40 year journey in the desert, the Jewish people’s every need was taken care off. From food and water to protection from the elements and other people who wanted to harm them.
H”S sent every day the manna, a miraculous food in the shape of a coriander seed that acquired the taste the person eating eat wanted to have. H”S sent it in the exact measure of every person’s need, no more and no less. If a person left for the next day it would rot. Before Shabbat He sent a double portion that would maintain itself fresh till the next day.
This miracle built in us the Emunah, the faith, that H”S is the One that feeds and takes care of us at every instant. We may work very hard, but whatever we make comes from H”S.
Today there is a special segula to pray for Parnasah Tova, for a good livelihood.
The sages say that the Tuesday of Parasha “Beshalach” is an opportune time to pray for our sustenance by reading the Torah portion that talks about the manna and how H”S took care of us.
