“Cover (the ark) with a layer of pure gold on the inside and outside and make a gold rim all around its top.”(Shemot 25:11)
This verse teaches us, according to the Talmud (Yoma 72b), that a Torah scholar must be pure inside as well as outside to be considered a Talmud Chacham.
Just as the ark which symbolized Torah knowledge had gold on both the inside and outside, so too a person who has knowledge in Torah should speak wisdom that he himself emulates and lives by.
We ourselves, even if we are not considered Torah scholars should live our lives keeping this in mind. Most of us say one thing and then go and do something else. We really need to work on living a truthful life “what you see is what you get.”
When you speak about lofty thoughts, ask yourself wether you really live by what you say?
