Are you aware of how many opportunities H”S sends your way every day to do a Mitzvah and connect to Him. The word Mitzvah means Commandment. H”S gave the Jews 613 commandments, 248 positive ( ex: honor parents, have children, keep Shabbat, etc..)and 365 negative ( ex: don’t kill, don’t steal, don’t eat certain non kosher animals, etc..) to the other nations he gave 7 known as the Seven Laws of Noah:1. Believe in G-d,2. Don’t blaspheme the name of G-d,3. Don’t Murder, 4. Don’t engage in illicit relationships (adultery, incest, etc..), 5. Don’t steal, 6. Don’t eat from a live animal ( sorry stone crab is a no no), 7. Establish courts of Justice.
The word Mitzvah is also known as a good deed and it also is related to the Aramaic word “Tzavta” which means to connect.
When we make a Mitzvah we are bonding with our creator, we are forging a relationship and although the pleasure and good feeling we do for doing a Mitzvah is real the intention of doing a Mitzvah should be only for the sake of the Mitzvah and the Mishnah says “that the reward of a mitzvah is the mitzvah itself”.
