After having served Lab …

By June 7, 2019 No Comments

After having served Laban faithfully for 14 years, Jacob worked for him another six years in order to build up his personal wealth.
Jacob didn’t only acquire material wealth but he also acquired true spiritual wealth.
He was able to build a beautiful wholesome family, even though their environment wasn’t the best. All his twelve sons were righteous.
His success came because he was able to balance the qualities of Chesed (kindness) and Gevurah (Justice), blending them into Tiferet (Harmony/Mercy).
Abraham and Isaac,on the other hand had a good son and an evil son. Abraham fathered Isaac and Ishmael and Isaac fathered Jacob and Eisav.
Jacob transcended by balancing the Chesed and the Gevura. By doing this he was able to educate each child according to his way. His sons were not what he wanted them to be, they were who they were and Jacob was able to see the good in each one by focusing in helping them live up to their potentials.
Jacob’s example teaches us that while logic and reason have their place it is the sincere relationship with H”S that allows us to go beyond our limitations helping us relate to others in an effective way no matter how different they might be from us.
