A woman is the builder of her home. She puts the tone and the feeling of it. If she is happy, the home will be happy. If she is sad, the home will be sad. She can build or destroy. That is the power of a woman!
In this week’s Parasha “Korah” we can see how one woman (Korah’s wife) destroyed her husband and family,and another woman (the wife of On Ben Pelet) saved him from death and her whole family.
Korah’s wife counseled her husband in the wrong direction. She was wealthy and had status but nevertheless she wanted more. She wanted her husband to be the High Priest not caring who he stepped on.
On’s wife did the opposite, she made her husband see that the rebellion would only bring suffering and that there was nothing for him there. She made a delicious meal for him and got him so drunk that he fell asleep. When they came for him to go to to the revolt she sat outside her house with her hair uncovered( sign of immodesty)his friends saw her and didn’t go for him. He slept through it all and his life was spared.
” Who is a good Woman? She who does ‘Osah’ her husbands will”(Tanna D’vei Eliyahu Rabba 9)
“Osah” also means to rectify or create, hence it could also mean:” Who is a good woman? She who creates her husbands will.”
The one that makes him want to do good!
