A man who was well versed in Jewish mysticism came to the Lubavitcher Rebbe. In the course of the conversation, the Rebbe brought up the mitzvah to “love your fellow as yourself.” And asked him:”What are you doing to help the Jewish community?”
“I’m thinking about doing more,” he answered.
To which the Rebbe responded,”Kabbalah and Jewish law views the right side as more dominant. For example, the right hand should be used to perform a mitzvhah and do kindness. This is because the right side represents “chesed” (loving-kindness), whereas the left side represents “gevurah,”(withholding).
“Why then did G-d place our heart,’the source of loving-kindness’ on the left side of our body?”
“You see,” continued the Rebbe, “your heart is actually on the right side!” The job of your heart is to empathize with, and care for, others. So when you stand facing another person , from their perspective, your heart is on the right side.”
#kindness❤️
