“The Secret of a Broken Heart”
From 60 Days from Rabbi Simon Jacobson
We are all broken in one way or another, all of us has experienced failures, broken promises, broken relationships, loss of loved ones, some have experienced loss of health. We all react in different ways to the pain that generates the breakage. Some are devastated and some grow from it. Some are stronger than others. A tree that doesn’t fall over in the storm is a tree that was strong before the storm, the storm just revealed the strength of the tree.
Paradoxically, the more broken you are now, the more whole you can become. The lower you fall the higher you can rise.
Our sages teach that there is nothing more complete than a broken heart . Only a person that has had pain can understand life and others.
That is why the holiest place for Jews is the Kottel ( the only part remaining of our Holy Temple) a broken wall. It is not a beautiful building and that is because the reality is that the world is a broken place- a broken place full of broken people whose job is to mend what is broken.
Let’s fix what is broken and not break what is whole!
Shabbat Shalom❤️
