True nobility comes when we are busy being the best that we can be. In this weeks Parasha, Rivkah is chosen as Isaac’s future wife. She came from Abraham’s family, but unlike Abraham’s nobility and kindness his relatives were wicked as they could be. Rashi describes Rivkah “as a rose amongst thorns” because she was able to set her self apart from the common trend that defined the character traits of her father and brother. As Abraham her true quality was love and kindness (cheesed)which was a perfect match to Isaac’s disciplined and strict character (gevura).
