Once I asked Rabbi Geshtenser from Mayanot in Israel “why did the Jews had to endure 210 years of slavery and hard breaking labor in Egypt? What was their sin for such a harsh decree?”
And he gave me an incredible answer that has strengthened me tremendously.
He said that the slavery was not a punishment, actually it was the making of the Jewish people. Just as when we make a cake we need oil, eggs, sugar, cocoa, etc.. One of the ingredients in the making of the Jewish people was slavery.
So when you question yourself why you have to go through such an ordeal or pain in your life just realize that it’s just an ingredient in the making of you.
If it weren’t for our slavery and being strangers in a foreign land we wouldn’t have the empathy towards others struggles.
