This weeks Parasha is named “Yitro”, after Moses father in law. It is also the Parasha in which we read the giving of the Torah at Mt.Sinai (the Ten Commandments). It is interesting to note that such an important Parasha is not named “Giving of The Torah” or any other name that would depict such an important event for humanity. Yitro was actually a Midianite priest who was an idolater and had tried every god under the sun. When he heard about the event of the Yam Suf (splitting of the Red Sea) and G-d drowning the Egyptians he was convinced in the ONE and Only G-d because he saw the mida keneged mida (what goes around comes around) of how the Egyptians wanted to drown the male babies of the Jews and H”S finished the Egyptians with their same medicine. This is why this whole Parasha is called after him because he was able to change his whole way of belief by seeing Hasgaha Pratis (G-d’s hand in every event).
