We are ending the wonderful month of Adar this week and entering the month of Nissan. From pure joy we transition to pure humility. Humbleness is the key to Joy so on the month of Nissan, through our avodah (work) of letting go of everything that makes us haughty we unlock the secret to joy.
We begin by cleaning our homes from “Hametz” ( anything that is leavened like bread, pasta, cookies, etc…) . Most people begin after Purim to clean their homes very thoroughly and get rid of the Hametz.
You would be surprised what you can find in your drawers, purses, husbands pockets, children’s rooms and toys. So to make the experience less hectic begin with time and dedicate every day to cleaning one room in the house. Although it is a physical job, spiritually you will be getting rid of your inner Hametz too ( which represented by your Ego).
