Today is the 13th day of the Omer “Yesod Shebe Gevurah” (foundation in discipline).
On the Shabbat after Pesach there is a Segula (good omen) to bake the Challahs in the shape of a key or insert a key in a challah before baking ( don’t forget to clean it very well and I wrap it in tin foil). This is done because this was the time of the year in which the Jews entered Israel and the mana stopped falling from the heavens. The Jews now had to work for their livelihood. Baking Challah takes effort and the key symbolizes that H”S is the one that has the key for our sustenance. We have to put our effort but ultimately the blessing of Parnasah (livelihood) comes from Him.
Yesod is our effort to unite this world with H”S. Every time we do a mitzvah we are making unions with the spiritual world, Gevurah is the discipline needed to make things happen.
Shabbat Shalom
