Today I had the great privilege to be at The Kottel celebrating the Bar Mitzvah of our dear friends son.
At the age of 13 for boys and 12 for girls a very special thing happens to these children coming to age. The second part of their G-dly soul enters their bodies. The Neshama Elokit enters the body in three stages and allocates itself on the right side of the brain. First it enters when the baby is born, second in their bar or bat mitzvah and third when the person gets married. This G-dly soul is mamesh a spark of G-d and the only thing it ever wants to do is follow Torah and Mitzvahs. There is another soul that is inside of us located on the left side of the heart which is called the animal soul or vivifying soul “Neshama Hamahabit”, and this soul is 100% instinctive, animalistic and its on survival mode. This is why we all have such a duality in us. The Bar Mitzvah “Son of a Mitzvah” or Bat Mitzvah “Daughter of a Mitzvah” makes this child now accountable and responsible for his observance of the Mitzvahs. The sages teach that till 21 years a person is not punished if they don’t keep them, but after 13/12 the person should be already taught how to keep them. So the preparation for this huge event is very important but it shouldn’t end in the party. The reading of the Torah, Tefillim, etc… And the celebrations are only the beginning of a life full of purpose, meaning and kindness.
Hopefully putting the animal soul with all its energy to work for the G-dly soul.
Mazal Tov Moishy!!!
