Today is Shabbat Shuva, the Shabbat celebrated in the 10 days of Teshuvah between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kipur.
Forgiveness is one of the most important topics in these ten days. To forgive someone is one of the most difficult things ever. Sometimes our Ego is soooo stubborn that it will just not let go of the anger, resentment and pain. For us to be able to forgive whole heartedly we need to have a connection to H”S.
To forgive doesn’t mean that the other person has not wronged us, to forgive means that we understand that the pain really comes from G-d. Nothing that is not meant to be for us will not affect us, if we have been hurt it means that it is bashert “meant to be”. The secret of being able to let go of the hurt in the past is to remember that G-d gave you life because you matter to Him and you have a place which can’t be replaced in perfecting His world.
The word for forgiveness in Hebrew is “Mechilah” which comes from the word “machol” meaning CIRCLE. Life is circular, everything is interconnected and “the beginning is wedged in the end”. When we are hurt the circle breaks, to forgive makes us mend and fix that which has been broken making the circle complete again.
“When we forgive, we not only forgive the person that hurt us, but we forgive also ourselves and G-d with life’s sometimes bizarre and often cruel twists and turns.” (Rabbi Simon Jacobson)
Check who you have hurt in the past and take the courage to ask for forgiveness and also forgive those who have wronged you. When we are forgiving H”S will be forgiving towards us too and that is DIVINE!
Shabbat Shalom
