This week’s Parasha is called “Haazinu” (Listen). This Torah reading consists of a 70 line song delivered by Moses to the Jewish people on the last day of his earthly life. The song tells the people to not forget about H”S miracles to us in the 40 years in the dessert and the whole purpose of it. Everything happened so we could be meritorious to enter the Land of Israel and live and prosper in it as G-d commanded.
In Sukkot we dwell in a Sukka (a temporary hut with a roof of branches for seven days. We eat all our meals there and some even have the costume to sleep in it. This is to remind us of the “clouds of glory” that surrounded and shielded us from the dangers through the forty years in the desert. In the Sukkah we are exposed to rain, sun, wind and every other element.Even if we live in sturdy and strong homes Sukkot reminds us that our only guarantee in life is our unbreakable bond with G-d and His kindness which reaffirm our trust in Him.
