We began reading the first Parasha of the whole Torah “Bereshit” (in the Beginning) this week. To discover the mystical light hidden within these words, let’s take a closer look at what they are trying to say to us in a deeper way.
“In the beginning G-d created the heavens and the earth…” What the Torah is saying to us in a practical level is that G-d gave us free choice, He created two paths for us to choose from (good and evil). He created “the heavens”, a life connected to spiritual meaning and G-d. And He gave us “the earth”, a strictly physical existence full of mundane pleasures and desires. It is up to us to choose.
“And the earth was chaos and void…” when we choose physicality over our soul we live a life devoid of clarity and fulfillment, we feel lost and empty and we yearn a life of peace.
“… and darkness was upon the face of the deep…” this lost soul feels it has been buried in a dark place, but when you fall so low you know it’s time to come back.
“… and the spirit of G-d hovered upon the face of the waters…” finally our divine spark can see some light, something has awaken it.
“… and said G-d…” we realize that we can’t do it alone, we need H”S to take us out. He is our strength and support.
“…There shall be light…” everything makes sense, finally we can see the truth!
“…and there was light…” when we are able to see the light we also become that light and finally we can begin to light up the world.
