This week we live with Noah. “Noah was a righteous man, perfect in his generations.” (Bereshit 6:9)
Whereas the rest of human society had degenerated to the point where G-d resolved to wipe them out with a flood never seen again. But Noah maintained himself righteous despite everyone else’s behavior, this is why he was chosen with his family to be the only survivors of the flood and begin the human race anew.
Noah’s name means “rest” and “tranquility” and this is what he gave to the world. Noah’s only mistake was that he didn’t try harder to change the society around him, he only cared about himself and that is why H”S put him to take care of the animals by feeding and cleaning them.
One thing for sure Noah’s descendants learned one lesson from the flood: that social disorder like crime, murder, theft and wickedness arises G-d’s anger. So they created a society based on cooperation and mutual respect. Even when they decided to destroy G-d by building the Babel Tower, H”S didn’t destroy them because they were nice to each other.
