Shavuah Tov!!! Wishing everyone a beautiful and blessed week.
This week we walk with our Patriarch Abraham in Parasha “Lech Lecha” (Go for yourself).
“G-d said to Avram, ‘go’ for yourself, from your land, your birthplace and your father’s house, to the land which I will show you.” (Genesis 12:1)
The practical message within the opening of this Torah portion is:
“Lech Lecha”- usually translated as “go for yourself”, it could also be rendered as “go to yourself.” Means “go to who you really are.”
“From your land”- go away from your worldliness, from your earthy and physical desires. Don’t make the material the most important part of your life. Use it as a tool for you spiritual Avodah (work) not the other way around.
“From your birthplace”- don’t be a person that lives life by rote, following what makes you comfortable and you are accustomed to. Live a life full of passion and intention.
“From your father’s house”- in Chassidic thought “wisdom” is referred to as “father.” In this verse, the “father” refers to the wisdom of the EVIL INCLINATION. The Torah tells us: Go away from your “father!” Don’t be a wise guy when it comes to Mitzvahs. Don’t rationalize them.
The Torah is G-d’s will, it tells us how we should think, speak and behave according to H”S will. We shouldn’t rationalize it for we are finite beings and to try to comprehend “infinity” in “finite” is just impossible.
And through all of the above, we come:
“To the land that I will show you”- G-d will lead us to, and reveal to us true spirituality, G-d’s supernal land.
Live a little higher
