On the 9th of November of 1938 “Kristallnacht” otherwise known as the Night Of Broken Glass happened when there was was a progrom against Jews throughout Nazi Germany. Jewish homes, shops, Synagogues and schools were ransacked and torched and close to 100 Jews were killed.
This day is known as the Night Of Broken Glass “Kristellnacht” for all the broken glass that night. This being the first major attack on Jews carried out by the Nazi regime taking around 30,000 Jews to concentration camps.
This very tragic part of our history can never be forgotten. Hitler gave a reason of why he wanted to exterminate the Jews. He wanted to get rid of every Jew in the whole world. His logic was that the Jew is the conscience of the world; it’s the moral voice. In his own words:”The Ten Commandments have lost validity. Conscience is a Jewish invention; it is a blemish like circumcision.”
In the book of Isaiah it is written: “the Jewish people are charged with the mission to be a light onto the nations.” We are commanded to live exemplary lives, to show the world what it means to be honest, charitable and kind.
It is our OBLIGATION to be the big brother of the world and live by example. This is what it means to be a Jew, we are a constant reminder of the expectations that our Creator has for each and everyone of us.
