Humans have always been in search of the FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH. The world is bombarded by products and procedures that promise YOUTH.
As I said yesterday the verse in this Parasha of Chayei Sarah repeats itself in telling us how “when Sarah was 100 years, she was like 20 years old regarding sin, and when she was 20 , she was like a 7years old regarding beauty.”
The Talmud tells us that “the coin of Abraham had the images of an old man and woman in one side and the image of a young boy and girl on the other side.”
The commentator Eitz Yosef explains that the young boy and girl represented the miraculously renewed youthfulness of Abraham and Sarah.
Rabbi JB Soloveitchik gives us a psychological explanation of this phenomenon of how they could be simultaneously old and young at the same time. A mature person understands the value of time and more likely not let opportunities pass by . The older you are the more life experiences you’ll have. A younger person on the other hand, loves new adventures, is curious and defies the world by taking chances without measuring the consequences.
Our spiritual work in this world requires both: maturation and youthful idealism.
Sarah and Abraham had the capacity to seamlessly meld the two always with complete faith and trust in G-d.
We can infuse our lives with wonder and youthful innocence and at the same time we can strengthen our wisdom and understanding of the world by always believing in a greater Being who takes care of each and everyone of us at every moment.
No wrinkle cream or procedure will ever give you this precious gift.
