The name of this month-Kislev- alludes to this idea of concealment and revelation. The word KISLEV consists of two parts: KIS from KISUI or KESEH meaning “covering” or “concealment”, and the second part consists of the letters LAMED VAV- numerically equivalent to EILEH which means “these are” and thus indicates “revelation.”
The soul exists within us at all times, it is hidden in our bodies. When we sleep the Neshamah is concealed. As soon as we awaken, the Neshamah becomes revealed again. By reciting the first blessing of the morning (as soon as we open our eyes and before saying anything else) “Modeh Ani Lefaneja Melech Chai Vekayam Shehehezarta Bi Nishmati Bechemela, Raba Emunateja” (I offer thanks to You, living and eternal King, for You have mercifully restored my soul within me, Your faithfulness is great).
When we recognize H”S by acknowledging Him and being grateful for all His kindness we are revealing the godly spark within us.
The word MODEH (thanks) is placed before ANI (I), placing H”S before us will allow us to live in a revealed way. Our whole purpose in this world is to reveal H”S through our thoughts, speech and actions. In a certain way is like “peek a boo.” When we are not revealing our essence then we are in a state of concealment.
