Today is Yud-Tes-Kislev …

Today is Yud-Tes-Kislev (19th of Kislev) otherwise known as the Rosh Hashanah of Chassidism in which we celebrate the liberation from prison on 1798 of Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi , the Alter Rebbe, the author of The Tanya.
He was imprisoned for 53 days on charges that his teachings threatened the imperial authority of the Czar.
More than a personal liberation, the Alter Rebbe understood that he was being judged in the higher realms if his teachings could come out to the world and if this was the right time to disseminate them.
Once liberated he started spreading the wealth of Chassidut all over the world.
Today we begin a new cycle in the learning of “The Tanya”. One of his most famous teachings is that in life we have to ways. One is “the short long way” and the other is “the long short way”. Sometimes in life we take short cuts in our spiritual growth which at the end take us to a dead end and we have to start all over again. It is better to go on the right and long way from the beginning which might seem longer but at the end it is not.
