This week’s Torah …

By June 7, 2019 No Comments

This week’s Torah portion “VAYECHI” (he lived) is focused on Jacobs last days of his life. Why is it called “He lived” and not “He died?” We can see that before his death, Jacob payed great attention to the fate of his sons. He was very worried that they should continue in his footsteps perpetuating the legacy that began with our forefather Abraham. This is why the Parashah is named “He lived.” The true test wether a person is truly alive in the true sense is when he/she is focused on educating his progeny in living a righteous and wholesome life, when the values imparted are those of fulfilling H”S will and living up to our Divine mission by filling G-d’s home with acts of love and kindness and the wisdom of Torah. When a person lives his life in this way we can say he truly lived, even after his death he still lives on.
