The second plague mentioned in Parasha Va’eira is the plague of the frogs . It symbolized the cold and lack of passion the Egyptians felt for others. Sadly the Jews, since they were so broken, also suffered from apathy. Frogs are cold blooded amphibious animals that hatch their eggs in cold water and forget about them. This plague is also connected to the sefira of Yesod (bonding). To be able to bond and unite a person needs to have a healthy sense of love and responsibility towards others. If we are lacking in this mida (character trait) we will never see the need to have healthy wholesome relationships in which we can understand others points of views and needs.
Frogs come to reflect in Kabbalah an emotional state of apathy, detachment and coldness.
H”S created this plague to not only punish the Egyptians but also to refine the Jews into becoming warm and caring people. In life we have to bother ourselves into understanding others and we have to care too.
