The name of this week’s Parasha “Ki Tisa” (you will lift up), refers to how G-d tells Moses to take an annual census-tax of the Jewish People in order to finance the communal sacrifices offered up in the Tabernacle.
Later on we come with the tragic event of the Sin of the Golden Calf when the Jews erected a Golden Calf to worship when Moses hadn’t come down from receiving the Torah. By one miscalculation, fear and doubt took over them making them make a bad decision that we still are atoning for every Yom Kipur.
The name of this Parashah is most appropriate for as Chassidut teaches “we only fall so we can rise higher than we were before.” The census tells us that H”S counts us as His very precious possession. When we feel we count and matter this will give us the strength to learn the lessons from our failings and strive for higher heights.
