“You will not be able to see My Face, for no person can see Me and live.” (Shemot 33:20)
Moses asks G-d to let him see His face and this is the answer H”S gives him. Then in (Shemot 33:23) H”S says:”I will then move My Glory and you will see behind Me, but you will not be able to see My Face.”
Chassidut explains that here is the answer to suffering. G-d does some things from his face and some come from His back. In life we cannot understand our life events immediately, only after they have passed we can come to understand why they happened, this alludes to H”S back. The Face alludes to the understanding of the event in the moment it’s happening. We cannot understand H”S ways for “His thoughts are not our thoughts.” The only thing we can come to understand is that we have the opportunity to choose from right and wrong and that this is the gift G-d gives us in order to have Free Will. If we could see everything from the beginning we would not be free.
