Passover marks our birth as a people, when G-d extracted a group of slaves out from the “49 gates of depravity” of Egypt and set them on the journey toward Sinai to give them the Torah, which is the instruction of life and it guides us into living with the “49 gates of understanding.”
Egypt, “Mitzraim” means limitations. The spiritual aspect of Egypt is those things that limit us and don’t allow us to be free.
We are complex beings composed of a body, an animal soul, a godly soul, personality, emotions, intellect, upbringing, etc…
The whole purpose of Pesach is to help us get rid of all those things that limit us and don’t allow us to live truly the way we should. Chametz (leavened food made of grain) represents our EGO, Matzah (flat bread) represents HUMBLENESS. In order to be able to get rid of our slave mentality we need to realign our reality. Pesach is a booster shot for the year so we can get rid of our arrogant and haughty part. By eating no chametz for eight days we allow our humble part out which we will allow us to work on the aspects of our lives that are not in the right place in thought, speech and action.
This is why people go crazy cleaning and getting ready for Pesach because they know that their whole peace of mind comes from the opportunity this eight days give us to connect to our true selves.
