The evil inclination is …

By June 7, 2019 No Comments

The evil inclination is the “foolish king”, while the good inclination is the “wise child”.The Midrash explains the metaphor as follows:
Why is the good inclination called a “child?” Because it only enters a person at the age of thirteen. Why is it called “poor?” Because not everyone listens to it. Why is it called “wise?” Because it teaches people the proper way.
And the evil inclination is referred to “than an old and foolish king,” why is it called a “king?” Because everyone listens to it. Why is it called “old?” Because it’s part of a person since he is born until he dies. Why is it called “foolish?” Because it teaches a person evil ways.
“Who no longer knows how to take care of himself,” for it doesn’t know how much pain and suffering will come and it’s not cautious.
In short, the good inclination is the voice of reason and morality, while the evil inclination is the voice of a reckless person. This is the difference between wisdom and foolishness.
