In Parashah “Va’ethanan” there is a Pasuk that says “See that I have taught you statutes and laws as the Lord, my G-d, commanded me, to do so in the midst of the Land.” (Devarim 4:5)
There have been many philosophy’s who teach that if a person wants to live a life of purity and sanctity in order to perfect the soul, he must flee from the world and the mundane. Living a life removed of any physical pleasure. But this is not the path of the Torah. On the contrary, we should live life to its fullest and elevate everything in the service of H”S. This means that we should live an elevated life among other people. True sanctity and perfection is to live amongst people and the material world and behave in a way that is consistent with Torah values.
If we remove ourselves from others and the world it is very easy to never get angry, feel envy, etc…and you will be missing the opportunity to bring kindness, compassion, and love to others which this brings us to be human beings.
