Today is the first day of the month of ELUL, which is an acronym for the verse in Shir HaShirim (Song of Songs) from King Salomon which says “Ani Ledodi Vedodi Li”, “I Am for my beloved and my beloved is for me.”
“I am for my beloved, means Yisrael (the bride) is for H”S. It is the love we show to Him from down here. By learning Torah and filling our days with acts of love and kindness we awaken H”S mercy towards us “Vedodi Li” “and my beloved is for me” is the love H”S (the groom) showers down to us.
This is a month of reciprocal LOVE in which the energy flows in incredible ways.
In preparation for the High Holidays we have to make an accounting of our last year, sometimes we realize there are things we did which we are far from being proud of. Elul reminds us that everything is about LOVE, love towards ourselves, towards, others, and towards G-d. This is to remind us that H”S never judges us from a place of anger or resentment, He judges us from a place of LOVE, having our best interest at heart. This is the Love we need to foster in ourselves, towards others, and towards H”S.
In simple words LOVE,LOVE, and more LOVE is the answer to everything.
