More than 3500 years ago the Torah was already talking about gender equality. I know this is a very delicate topic to touch and I want to make it clear that the views presented here are the ones taken from the Torah and H”S directive to us.
According to the Torah, men should strive to actualizar all their G-d given potential as men, and women should also strive to actualizar their G-d given potential as women. Men and women have complete different roles in the purpose of creation and our biological gender clearly indicates which qualities are for who.
Manifesting our given potential -free of any peer pressure that our society might impose to be something we are not.- When a woman feels she must perform like a man, she implicitly affirms women are less than men. The way in which we cultivate self worth is by acknowledging our G-d given reality. If we are a woman we should always nurture our femininity. As Elsa Schiaparelli, a renowned Italian fashion designer who dressed women between WWI and WWII, said: “a woman must be feminine but at the same time strong, she should never loose her sense of womanhood.”
The world will be redeemed in the merit of women. A woman is the one that makes sure there is a future by educating their children and nurturing those around her to be wholesome, kind and productive human beings. There is no bigger task and this was entrusted to all women.
Men on the other hand are entrusted with bringing the knowledge of G-d to the world, by learning Torah and living like true examples of righteousness in their work place. Together men and women, each with their own unique qualities, when they unite as partners will ultimately be able to bring the world to its perfection. This can only be achieved when both are working for the same goal.
