Today, the 7th of Elul, in history is the day the spies that slandered the Land of Israel died in the desert in 2449(1312 BCE).
Indeed the word Elul also means to “scout or search” in Aramaic.
The problem of the spies was that they judged H”S. G-d had a purpose of taking us out of Egypt and giving us the Torah at Mount Sinai and that was the conquering of the Land of Israel and settling in it living according to the Torah directives.
Their issue was that they didn’t think they could do it, they saw themselves as grasshoppers in giants eyes.
Our job in life is to do what needs to be done. Every opportunity that comes to you to do good is a mission designed specially for you.
Elul is a month of searching in what ways we are not accomplishing our purpose, most of the times we think the reason is that we can’t do it. That is not for us to decide. We just need to find a way to do it and try, the rest is in H”S hands.
