Here is some inspiration so we can begin the week with a good thought in our minds.
The entire universe takes on meaning when it is used to enable man to achieve the ultimate goal of creation. The universe can be only as meaningful as man is.
Our limited intelligence may not be able to understand the purpose of many things.How is the tiny insect in the tropical rain forest of service to us? How do stars that are billions of light years distant can in any way contribute to our functioning?
The Midrash tells a story of King David in his youth. He once encountered a spider and this made him meditate on how could this spider be of service to man?
Many years later, when he was running away from King Saul, who wanted to kill him, he had to hide in a cave. A spider spun a web over the opening of the cave, and upon seeing the spider web, King Saul concluded that it was impossible for David to have entered it. In this way his life was spared.
G-d then said to David: “you should never question the purpose of any of My creations.”
So next time you question yourself about the purpose of anything, remember this story and that everything in your life is purposeful and meaningful.
