In Parashah “Vayeishe …

In Parashah “Vayeishev” (He settled), Jacob arrives safely to Hevron with his family and settles there.
Joseph his son from Rachel has two dreams; in one dream his brother’s sheaves bow down to his, and in the second dream the sun, the moon, and eleven stars bowed down to him.
His brothers didn’t take this well, they thought Joseph was in fact as evil as Eisav and his spiritual heir.
Joseph’s two dreams seem to convey the same idea.
After his brothers decide to kill him and eventually change their minds and sell him to a caravan of gypsies who take him down to Egypt where he is sold as a slave to Potiphar, is accused of sexual harassment and thrown in jail, where he interprets the dreams of the wine maker and the baker, and finally is taken out to become the Viceroy of Egypt after interpreting two more dreams of Pharaoh. Joseph becomes a world leader who everyone has to bow down to him (including his brothers)because he saves the world from famine.
What we learn from here is that those two first dreams that Joseph had concerning his brothers were the spring board and a wild ride in which we see the hand of G-d taking Joseph down first in order to raise him up to his purpose in life.
Dreams are a display of what our mind sees when we don’t control it. Some are the result of external stimuli, other dreams are the continuation of the thoughts of the day, but then there are dreams that border on the prophetic. While most dreams are better ignored, this ones are too powerful to be dismissed.
The Kabbalah explains that while we sleep our souls leave our bodies and ascend to their heavenly source to replenish their energy, while a part of the soul stays in the body to keep it alive. In this disembodied state the soul is free to experience visions and encounters which are usually off limits to beings of this world. This dreams bring special messages, either from loved ones who are no longer with us, or new inspiration from H”S. Either way at the end of the day what really matters is what we do with this dreams.
