This week we read a double portion of the Torah. We read “Vayak’hel-Pekudei” (assembled-counting).
When we read these two Parashah’s together there is a special message for us.
Vayakhel means “assembled,” it stresses the strength of the unity of separate parts. It represents quality in our Divine service, since merging with a greater whole gives a person a greater qualitatively superior experience. His attributes achieve a higher level, because he is now a member of a greater cause that he could not reach alone.
“Pekudei,” on the other hand stresses the worth of the individual, how every person “counts” as a separate entity.
It represents a smaller view of the world, were every detail is seen in its own right, with the understanding that every detail reveals G-d’s glory in its own way.
We learn from here that the unity of the individuals create the whole, without this unity we can’t be complete. Every person matters and is a necessary part of the bigger picture.
