Rabbi Bachya ibn Paquda, in his book “Duties of the Heart,” explains that everything H”S created is for our disposition and use.
The different kinds of plants are provided for our good, and the various animals serve to benefit us. As King David said:”You have made him master over the works of Your hands, placed all things at his feet….(Tehillim 8:7-9)
The sequence of sunrise and sunset determines the times of day and night and the solar ascension and declension produce cold and heat creating the four seasons with their blessings, repeating themselves over and over in an unbroken, uniform cycle.
When we meditate in H”S goodness and how He thought about everything when creating the world, we will have no doubt that behind such a perfect creation there has to be a Creator.
Knowing this and having it in mind will foster in us feelings of great gratitude and responsibility towards such an awesome gift.
